Windell Faxon Floyd

Windell Faxon Floyd of Somerset, KY passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2018.He was born July 6, 1926 to Walter and Lela Griffin Floyd of Waynesburg, KY. He served in the US Army Infantry as a staff sargent in Germany, and France During WW II. Windell married his childhood sweetheart, Grace Osborne on February 22, 1947. She preceded him in death on January 20, 2018. Windell continued his education after graduating from High School, earning his associate degree from Lindsey WIlson College, and a B. S. degree from Eastern Kentucky University. Windell taught locally in several one room schools before moving his family to Brigham City, Utah where he taught at the Intermountain Indian School. Nine years later he moved his family to Tama-Toledo, Iowa Where he worked as an Education Specialists and then on to Bemidji, Minnisota as an employment Assistant. Windell retired from the Bureau of Indiana Affairs in 1980. After retirement he devoted his time to his ranch raising sheep, cattle and hay. In 1992 Windell and Grace retired from ranch work to move, after 45 years of being away, to thier roots in KY.After enjoying years of tending his 400 acre ranch in Bemidji, Minnesota, Windell surprised and delighted his friends and relatives with is many creations in wood and stone. Windell spent several years beautifully restoring antique furniture and personal treasures to the amazement of friends, relatives, and customers. Windell's restorations, bowls, and stone items and candle sticks now have homes in many states around the nation.Other survivors include; three children, Walter Dean (and Linda) Floyd, David Floyd and Vangie (and Ed) Hansen; six grandchildren, Matt (Kris) Tower, Beth Tower, Jackie (and Mike) Diekmann, Janna (and Tony) Johnson, Carl Floyd, Michael (and Evonne) Floyd, and eight great grandchildren, one brother, Carl Leo (and Gayle)Floyd, two sisters, Doris Decker and Doretta Meece.Other than his parents, and wife, Windell was also preceded in death by:one brother who died in infancy and two other brothers,Thomas and D. A. Floyd, and one sister, Mildred Wilmont, and one daughter-in-law, Jan Floyd.Windell was a kind person who will be greatly missed by all who knew him and he leaves a host of relatives and friends who mourn his passing.A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 2, 2018 at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in the Good Hope Cemetery with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post # 38. The family of Mr. Windell Faxon Floyd ill receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. Friday until time for services.Pulaski Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the family of Mr. Floyd during this time.
