Ruth Community

William E "Bill" Ping, Jr was born on January 26, 1942 in Somerset Ky and he departed this life to go home and be with the Lord on February 17, 2025.

He was preceded in death by his father William Edward Ping, Sr and mother Essie Alexander Ping of the Ruth community, and a brother who died in infancy; Vernon Lee Ping.

He is survived by his wife of 58 1/2 years Margaret Scott Ping, one daughter Lisa (Guy) Cash of Somerset Ky, a brother Russell (Jan) Ping of Somerset Ky, a sister Paula (Larry) Sears of Somerset Ky, an aunt Betty Phelps of Somerset Ky, nieces Casey Roberts of Lexington Ky, and Cammy (Lucas) DeBord of Somerset Ky, and nephews Jeffrey Ping, and Jason (Amy) Ping all of Lawrenceburg Ky.

"Bill" was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother and uncle. He was warm, kind, funny, and instantly loved by all who met and knew him. He was of the Baptist faith and had received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age during a revival at Clay Hill Baptist Church.

He loved sports and throughout high school he played on Somerset's basketball and baseball team.

Sometime after graduation, he developed an avid interest in printing and he enrolled in Somerset Vocational school. He took printing class there, which was taught by his dad Ed Ping, and he mastered the trade. He also served in the National Guard and was stationed at Fort Knox, Ky. In January 1966 he was employed by Magna Graphic in Lexington Ky, a printing company that specialized in pre-press work for setting color in pictures for children's school books and in magazines for various companies. After 39 1/2 years, many of which were spent driving back-and-forth from Somerset to Lexington, he then retired.

When he was younger, his hobbies included going fishing and watching the Cincinnati Reds. After retirement, he especially enjoyed watching UK basketball and football games. He also loved to read and watch classic westerns. But, he was happiest of all when sharing special moments of love and laughter with his family; some of whom were also his closest and best friends.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Tuesday February 25, 2025 at Clay Hill Baptist Church Cemetery at 10 AM and will be officiated by Bro. Logan Hargis, Pastor of Langdon Street Baptist Church.
