William Cyrus “Bill” Denney, 90, of Somerset, KY, passed away peacefully in his sleep, Friday, December 17, 2021. He was born in Colorado on August 15, 1931, son of the late C.W. and Laura Slagle Denney. He grew up in Pulaski County, graduated from Science Hill High School and attended Lindsey Wilson College. He served his country by enlisting in the Navy, assigned to the Fox Division on the Heavy Cruiser, U.S.S. Des Moines 1951-1955. He moved north for work and ultimately returned to Somerset, Ky in 1975, with his wife, Mabel Evans, who he married April 5, 1958, and their two sons, Wayne and Michael. He played an important role in many business ventures in Somerset, Ky, and often partnered with other good businessmen from the community. He worked most of his business life in the insurance business, and was Co-Owner of Universal Insurance Agency, which they purchased in 1975, until he retired. He was partners in Denney’s Shell Food Mart, along with his two sons. He thoroughly enjoyed his church family, Lake Cumberland, and UK basketball, but he would never pass up a good game of Rook. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Mabel, his two sons, Wayne (and Stephanie) Denney and Michael (and Cindy) Denney; grandchildren, Corey (and Sydney) Mounce, Derek Denney, Heather Denney, Connor Denney, and Clark Denney; great-grandchildren, Levi and Lucas, all of Somerset, Ky, and a sister Alma Jean (and Jim) Buck of Cincinnati OH. He is proceeded in death by his parents, C.W. Denney and Laura Slagle Denney; his stepmother, Isabel Dunaway Denney; sister Ruth Liston; sister Grace Gray; and brother Boyce Denney. A funeral service for Mr. Denney will be held Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 21, 2021 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Pulaski Funeral Home. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post #38. Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens. Pulaski Funeral Home is honored to assist the family.
