Viola “Carlene” Cornett, age 92, of Somerset, KY, was called home from this life by our Lord on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center.
Carlene was born on January 6, 1932 in Pulaski County, KY to the late William Carlos Phelps and Sarah Adams Phelps. She worked, as a seamstress, over 44 years and retired from Palm Beach Company. Carlene was of Baptist faith and a member of Old Fashion Baptist Church. She enjoyed her beautiful flowers, reading the Bible, and listening to her favorite hymns and King of Kings Radio. She cherished receiving photos and visits from her family, especially her many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She is survived by one sister, Sue (and Ronald) Ping of Eubank; and several nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Beecher Eugene “Gene” Cornett, whom she was united in marriage on Dec. 22, 1965; five brothers, Raymond E. (and Ruby) Phelps, James “Leonard” (and Kathleen) Phelps, William “Earl” (and Christine) Phelps, Robert B. “Bob” (and Joyce) Phelps and William C. “Jr.” (and Iva Dean) Phelps; one sister, Geraldine (and Samuel) Haynes; one niece, Nancy Phelps, and two nephews, David Phelps and Ronald “Bruce” Ping.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at Pulaski Funeral Home from 10:00am until time for services.
Her funeral service will follow on Tuesday at 1:00pm at the Chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Bradley Goforth officiating.
Brian Ping, Aystin Ping, Conner Ping, Brian Craig, Jeff Wheeldon, Lloyd Hart, Dan Hart and Ron Hart will serve as pallbearers.
Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery.
The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to the Pleasant View Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or the Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center.
