Thelma Delores Meece

July 21, 1944 — May 3, 2021

Thelma Delores Herrin Meece, Somerset, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2021 at the age of 76 at the Jean Waddle Care Center.

Born on July 21, 1944, Delores was the daughter of the late Gillis and Beulah (Randall) Herrin, and was raised in the Shopville area along with her three sisters, Vivian Hickey, Virginia Bullock, and Joyce Hansford, all of whom preceded her in death.

She married her husband Lloyd Wendell Meece on October 19, 1962, and enjoyed his company for 53 years until his death August 16, 2016. From their union, their daughter, Beth, was born.

First and foremost, Delores was a wife, a mother, and a grandmother. She loved caring for others, especially her grandchildren whom she loved very much. This love of caring for others became a career for her, as she was a proud Licensed Practical Nurse. For 35 years, beginning at the Somerset Hospital and continuing until she retired from Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, she dedicated her life to the care of others, primarily in the nursery.
Delores was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Somerset and enjoyed being involved with many committees and activities within the church. She also loved the beach, books, and the Red Hat Society in which she served as Queen Mother. The group enjoyed many outings, one being attendance at the National Red Hat Convention in New York City. Lastly, she was a much-celebrated cook and was ready to whip up a dessert anytime.
Surviving Delores are her daughter Beth and (Keith) Patrick of Somerset; her grandson Gerek Reid Patrick of Houston, TX; and granddaughter Alison Leigh Patrick of Richmond, KY; nieces Rosetta (and Robert) Popp of Lawrenceburg, IN; Pamela Hansford of Kettering, OH; and nephew Rodney (Lois) Michael of Torrance, CA. as well as many great-nieces and nephews.
