Shirley Ann Brummitt (Huff), born January 20, 1937, passed away May 6, 2024 at the age of 87.
Born at home in Tipp City, Ohio to Ralph and Emily (Bishop) Huff, she was second of five children. She had an older brother, Ralph Jr, and Tom, Mary, and Rollin, whom she often shared fond memories of from their time on the farm. As a young woman, she was educated at the Dayton Art Institute, which began a lifelong love of art. Shortly after, she meet John David Brummitt and the two were married January 19, 1956. They shared a loving marriage and soon had two daughters, Jon Dee Weaver (spouse James Weaver) and Jamie Deann Bradford (spouse Johnny Bradford). She later was joined by grandchildren Shannon Letson, Crystal Sowder (spouse Brian Sowder), Johnny Bradford (spouse Amber Smith), David Hughes (spouse Katlen Hughes) and seven beloved great-grandchildren.
In her life she worked as a greeting card artist, seamstress, mural artist, teacher, and retired from Kmart. An avid traveler, she loved to photograph the different landscapes and people she saw and would often later paint the subjects in her home studio. A perpetual and prolific artist she loved to paint, garden, and sew. She kept a garden of breathtaking irises, bountiful peonies, and slightly mean cats. She made the best deviled eggs and the worst mac & cheese. At 87, she still taught watercolors and quilting classes weekly. She lived a fulfilling and inspiring life. She was deeply loved and admired and we will all miss her everyday.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at Mill Springs National Cemetery at 1:30 PM.
Pulaski Funeral Home is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
