Sammie Adkins, Jr.; 83, of Somerset, Kentucky passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
He was born in Pike Co., Kentucky on July 28, 1934; son of the late Sammie Adkins, Sr. and Ivy Allen Adkins. Sammie worked for National Cash Register Co. in Dayton, OH for 17 years, before entering the ministry. In 1978 he moved to Somerset and started at Clear Creek Baptist College for 3 years and pastored Polly Ann Baptist Church, after leaving he went to High Street Baptist Church where he pastored for 22 years, and delivered day old bread to God's Food Pantry, and the Catholic Church for 25 years from the Kroger Corp.; after leaving High Street Baptist Church, he went on to serve as interim pastor Pulaski Baptist Church, Pleasant Run Baptist Church, and Northside Baptist Church in Science Hill. Sammie would later serve as the Senior Adult Pastor at Beacon Hill Baptist Church. In later years, Sammie served as a chaplain at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, where he was also a member of Senior Friends. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife Betty Smith Adkins; two sons, Tim Adkins of Somerset, and Ted & (Julie) Adkins of Russell Springs; three grandchildren, Dustin Adkins of Jamestown, Haley Adkins and Callie Adkins both of Somerset; siblings, Frank, Bobby, Paul, Mike, Delores, Freda, and Patty.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sammie Adkins, Sr. and Ivy Allen Adkins.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. David Pendley officiating.
Burial will be in Mill Springs National Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Monday, January 15, 2018 at Pulaski Funeral Home.
