Reinhold Rast

Reinhold "Ron" Rast, age 84, of Nancy, Kentucky passed away peacefully on September 8, 2024 at his home after a long illness, surrounded by his three daughters.


Reinhold was born on April 1st 1940 in Warufka, Ukraine to the late Friedrich and Maria (Bloch) Rast. He was baptized November 11, 1941 and later confirmed at St. Katherine Kirche, Knesbeck. He married Virginia Long on November 26, 1960, she preceded him in death on October 12, 2023. He was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church of Somerset, Kentucky.


Reinhold was an example of a strong, loyal, honest man who was well known for his ceramic tile work, as well as his auto body work. He fluently spoke, read and wrote both the English and German language. In His younger years he enjoyed playing soccer for the Evergreen Soccer Club in Reading, Pennsylvania. He took great pleasure in farming and gardening. He was a retired employee of Steve Barlow's Farm Equipment in Somerset. In his later years he enjoyed spending time wood crafting and was an avid sports fan. Reinhold was also a "fix it all" kind of man who had a heart of gold and was caring towards everyone. The thing he took the most joy from however was spending time with his family and friends and he sure loved his grand babies. He was very loved and will be missed by many. There is not a person who met him that he didn't leave an impact on.


He is survived by his three daughters; Donna Rast and her partner Brenda Overby of London, Kentucky, Diane Reynolds of Ferguson, Kentucky Erika Davis and her husband David of Eubank, Kentucky. Two Siblings; Herman Rast of Mason City, Iowa and Rosemunde "Rose" Zboch of Fredonia, New York as well as one sister in law, Sandra Czartorynski of Somerset, Kentucky, six grandchildren; Troy Reynolds. Brynn Haskins, Jesse Reynolds (Corinna Linde), Lance and Heather Rast, Amber Sears, and Autumn ( Austin Harrison) Sears. He also leaves eight great grandchildren; Hunter and Sadie Reynolds, Hailey and Emma Haskins, Bryley Mallaber, Bradly Reynolds, Valarie ( Derrick Dugger) Rast and Connor and Colson Sears as well as two great, great grandchildren Anthony Dugger and Levi McNevin. He also leaves five bonus grandchildren, Dewayne, Sabrina, Jennifer, Jeremy and Heather, fourteen bonus great grandchildren,; Ethan, Brooklyn , Jayden, Austin, Kayla, Taryn, Zachary (Katie) Davis, Malory Davis, Hayden, Tiara, Dustin, and Jillian, two bonus great, great grandchildren; Bentley and Corbin McGee and two great great granddaughters who will be born in December 2024 and January 2025 respectively. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, family and friends he loved dearly and his little companion, Sassy, the Chihuahua his MIGHTY PROTECTOR.


Along with his parents, Reinhold was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Rast, a sister in law Rosalie Rast, brother in law; John Zboch, one great grandson, Colton Mallaber, grandson in law, Scott Haskins, son in law, Bradley Reynolds and Joseph Diaz, Companion of Diane Reynolds.


A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 14, 2024 with Visitation from 5:00 Pm to 7:00 Pm in the Chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky. A memorial service will follow at 7:00 Pm with Bro. Dustin York officiating.
