Phyllis Jean Lewis Meeks, 78, of Somerset, Kentucky, was called to everlasting rest on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 20, 1946, in Somerset, KY to the late William Howard and Russie Deholas Stigall Lewis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Clarence Meeks; her brother, William Ray Lewis; and her sister, Patricia Lewis Horton.
Phyllis and her family relocated to Louisville, KY where she was educated in the public school system and graduated from Central High School in 1964. Her professional life included serving as an inspector at Phillip Morris Inc. in Louisville, KY. After she moved to Jeffersonville, IN, Phyllis worked in various positions at General Mills Pillsbury, until retirement.
Phyllis' adept, yet caring, personal value system guided her life's mission and goals. She was gifted with organizational skills and talents beyond measure. She firmly believed that cleanliness was next to Godliness. As an interior designer, she was always willing to share amazing tips and advice. She beautifully decorated her own home and maintained an immaculate, spotless residence.
Phyliss was a friendly, loving, welcoming person who often responded with "Yes, dear" to everyone that she met. She was a sewing enthusiast, an excellent cook, recipe collector, and an avid reader, who also adored gospel music. God also endowed Phyllis with the capacity to grow beautiful flowers.
She loved traveling with her late husband, Clarence. Together, they visited many states, especially the eastern seaboard, from Maine to the Florida Keys, as well as the Caribbean Islands. She took great pleasure in traveling to other countries and experiencing diverse cultures. After retiring in 2007, she built the home of her dreams and relocated back to Somerset.
Phyllis was a lifelong advocate for Jesus Christ! At a young age, she accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. During her teen years, she sang in the choir at the Church of the Living God in Louisville. While living in Jeffersonville, IN, she attended the
Gilt Edge Missionary Baptist Church, under the pastorate of the late Rev. D. L. Motley, Jr., who also united Phyllis and her late husband, Clarence, in holy matrimony. After relocating back to Somerset, she was an active member of the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, where she often assisted the choir with selections. Phyllis also served in the food service ministry, the missionary society, and was always willing to volunteer at church and in her community, wherever her talents were needed.
She is survived by her sister, Sheila Yvonne Lewis, as well as her nieces: LaTonya "Toni" Doyle, Stacy Lynn Horton, Mary Ashley Horton; three great nephews, one great niece, two great-great nieces and three great-great nephews, all of Louisville, KY. She is also survived by her sister's good friend, Arthur J. "Ajay" Perry of Louisville, KY, and a host of relatives and friends. Phyllis was a kind, generous person, who will be missed by all who knew her!
Her homegoing is a celebration of her reunion with God and a reminder that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories. Friends and family may visit at Pulaski Funeral Home, 165 Hwy 2227, Somerset, KY 42503 from 10 AM to 12 PM on Friday, October 4, 2024. The funeral will immediately follow with Rev. Siebert F. Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the Mill Springs National Cemetery. Pulaski Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Mrs. Phyllis Jean Lewis Meeks.
