Paul Wilhoit Horton, age 96, of Somerset, KY passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at his residence. Paul, better known as Buster, received his nickname early in life from his uncle, Roy Guffey. Buster was born in Somerset, KY on November 28, 1921, to the late Ruby Guffey Wilhoit and Gentry Wilhoit. Buster's father, Gentry Wilhoit, preceded him in death in 1925. Ruby Guffey was remarried in 1927, to S. B. Horton, who later adopted Buster in 1941. Buster attended Somerset High School and was a stand-out football player. Upon graduation from high school, he was awarded an athletic scholarship to play football at the University of Kentucky. He chose instead, to attend business school in Louisville, and soon thereafter developed into a successful businessman. He and his father, S. B. Horton, were co-owners of the Citizens Chevrolet dealership in the 1950's into the late 1960's. Upon the death of S.B. Horton, Buster partnered with Ronald Wilson, Sr., in developing a privately owned business, Citizens Auto Sales of Somerset.Buster was united in marriage to Lucille Gilliland on January 18th, 1952. She preceded him in death on March 30th of 1996. Buster is survived by; two daughters, Suzanne (Bobby) Kidd, and Melissa (Stanley) Oliver, both of Somerset. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Laurie Kidd Dudgeon of Frankfort, Jake (Jessica) Kidd of Leonardtown, MD, Luke (Krystal) Oliver of Somerset, and Sarah (Jeremy) Wofford of Danville, as well as 8 great grandchildren.Along with his parents, and wife, Buster was preceded in death by a step-son, Frank James "Butch" Richie, a granddaughter, Lisa Jo Kidd, and a great granddaughter, Ann James Dudgeon. Buster was a charter member of Duke Memorial Baptist Church, and will be remembered by his family and friends for his kind and gentle spirit.A funeral service for Mr. Horton will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 26, 2018 at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Smith officiating.
