Mildred Irene Girdler

Mildred Irene Girdler, daughter of the late Rev. Jim Riley and Mattie Brinson Sears, was born in Somerset, KY on July 21, 1921 and she departed this life in Somerset, KY on Wednesday December 9, 2020 having attained the age of 99 years. She was united in marriage to Mr. Henry P. Girdler on April 8, 1939 and he preceded her in death on May 28, 1983. Survivors include; one son, Jerry Girdler (and Marion Price) of Somerset, KY and Carol (and Steve) Dunn of Somerset, KY; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Johnson, Angel Ward, Bart Girdler, Nichole Girdler, Shawn Dunn, April Hayes and Sara Keith; sixteen great grandchildren, Dillon Johnson, Lacy Johnson, Amy Hall, Landon Girdler, Tyler Dunn, Maddy Dunn, Kelsey Dunn, Lyndsey Dunn, Sophie Dunn, Ally Hayes, Anabel Hayes, Colson Hayes, Olivia Huff, Blake Keith, Brad Keith, and Ben Keith; and three great great grandchildren, Issac, Austin and Dennis Walker. Other than her parents and her husband, Mildred was also preceded in death by; two sons, Donnie Girdler, and Jackie Girdler; four brothers, James, Raymond, Gerald, and Eugene Sears and three sisters, Thelma Weddle and two sisters that died in infancy. Mildred was happiest in life when she was helping and caring for others. She took great care of her family and ministered in many ways to her Sunday school class for more than 40 years. Her caring nature inspired her to be a volunteer at the Somerset City Hospital, and Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital for more than 30 years. She was a retired cook from Pulaski Elementary School where she would pile on the food to those children who she knew was really hungry. Mildred was a dedicated member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, at the time of her passing she was the oldest living member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She loved the Lord with all her heart and always lived her life reflecting her strong Christian faith. For many years Mildred's hobby was embroidery. She would embroider pillow cases and scarfs and donate them to her church to be auctioned off to raise money for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. Her children are so very blessed to have been loved and reared by this wonderful Mother. They would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Somerset Nursing and Rehabilitation and to the staff of Hospice of Lake Cumberland for the excellent care given to their mother. A Private funeral service will be held Monday, December 14, 2020 at the Pulaski Funeral Home with her son-in-law, Bro. Steve Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens. The funeral service will be streamed live from the facebook page of Pulaski Funeral Home at 12:30 p.m. Monday, December 14th. In lieu of flowers the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Gideon Memorial Bible Plan. Pulaski Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
