Melvin "Mel" W. Brooks

October 30, 1938 — February 5, 2021

Melvin W. "Mel" Brooks, son of the late Basil and Catherine Wright Brooks, was born at Tuscumbia, Alabama on October 30, 1938 and he departed this life on February 5, 2021 in Somerset, Kentucky having attained the age of 82 years. He was united in marriage to Mrs. Sonya Berger Brooks. She preceded him in death on December 27, 1996. Two sons blessed this union: Allan Brooks, who preceded him in death, and Brad (and Jane) Brooks of Somerset, Kentucky. Other survivors include; 5 grandchildren, Madison (and Dylan) Gaskin, Brandon (and Kerri) Brooks, Alliey (and Greg) Witt, Perry (and Alana) Wesley, and Emily (and Cory) Stringer; six great grandchildren, Madeline, Mason, Brayden, and Savannah Brooks, and Kamden & Kristopher Hughes; and two brothers, Clayton Brooks of North Carolina, and Charles Brooks of Cadiz, Kentucky. As stated by his granddaughter, "This morning (February 5th, 2021) Pepaw, Mel Brooks went home. If you knew Pepaw, you knew he loved everything UK. He had the best football tailgates. Some of the best days were spent on his houseboat, “Hello Darlin’”. The golf course was his second home. I can’t forget to mention Happy Hour at Mel’s place. Pepaw was loved by so many and loved so many also. I bet almost anyone can tell a funny story about him. After 20 + years, he is finally reunited with Memaw and Alan." The family of Mel Brooks do not have enough words to thank all the nurses and staff on the Hospice unit and all those who have reached out to us this week. All the doctors and nurses who have also taken care of him these past couple months. God has a purpose for everything and we are trusting in him. Pepaw is no longer suffering and at peace now. A funeral service for Mr. Mel Brooks will be held at Pulaski Funeral Home Tuesday, February 9th at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the Somerset Cemetery.
