Mr. Melvin Carter, son of the late Oscar and Lura Glasgow Carter, was born September 2, 1927 in the Valley Oak Community and he departed this life on June 1, 2019 in Somerset, KY having attained the age of 91 years. Other than his parents, he was also preceded in death by; a sister, Lurene (Ivo) Skaggs; and a brother, Barney Lee Carter. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth "Libby" Shadoan Carter; a sister-in-law, Barbara H. Carter; a special niece, Betty Jo Tomlinson; special cousins, Joe Russell Carter, Wilma Jean Bales and Ginger Noe Sears, and the following caretakers who are just like family; Tommy Phillips and Betty Ellnor and several nieces and nephews. Melvin lived an interesting and varied life. He was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Navy. He was also a retired printer for the Dayton Daily News. Besides his family, his main source of joy was; Church, Trap Shooting, traveling, and his farm. A funeral service for Mr. Melvin Carter will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at the Pulaski Funeral Home with Rev. Gerald Ashley officiating. Burial will follow in the Bobbitt Cemetery. The family of Mr. Melvin Carter will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. Wednesday until time for services. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38. In lieu of flowers the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Hospice of Lake Cumberland or the Bobbitt Cemetery Fund. Pulaski Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
