Mary Louise Whitis passed away December 18, 2024. She was born to Elmo and Mabel Foster in Owensboro, KY on November 27, 1938. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Edward Foster (Cleophas), Thomas ( Janice) Fosster, Ann Payne and Martha (Donnie) Hamilton. She is survived by her husband of 63 years: Kenneth Whitis, and sons; Kenneth Whitis, Jr., Russell (Deborah) Whitis and two grandsons: Arlo and Nate Whitis.
Married to Kenneth in 1961, Mary accompanied him in his military service travels both in the United States and overseas. She was a valuable companion, taking on the added family responsibilities while Kenneth was fulfilling military requirements. She was a member of Officers Wives Clubs and performed countless hours volunteering in family services activities. She was named program manager at two bases. Mary was active in physical fitness activities, as a runner and later walking and hiking. She enjoyed camping, attending bluegrass festivals, and wintering in Florida. Mary was an avid reader and liked working crossword puzzles.
Mary was a great mother and companion. Her positive outlook and attitude made a lasting impression on everyone that met her. The family sincerely appreciates the outstanding assistance provided by Hospice of Somerset, KY over the past several months. It is requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, 100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, KY 42501.
Funeral services will be held at 12 o'clock on Monday, December 23rd at the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Tyler Ford officiating. Burial will follow in the Mill Springs National Cemetery.
