Mary Faith Prather Bates, age 77 of Somerset, KY passed away August 10, 2023 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Hospice Care after a brief illness.
Ms. Bates was born on March 6, 1946 in Danville, KY to the late Esma Girkey Prather and Arthur Goble Prather.
She enjoyed her family most of all. Whether it be cooking, vacationing, grandchildren's events, or playing rook.
She was employed and retired from Oakwood Training Center after 28 years of service. After retirement, she worked as an Administrative Secretary for Pulaski Fiscal Court with 911 for 12 years.
She most recently resided at Bluegrass Senior Living, where she had a host of friends and was often referred to as the “queen”.
She accepted Jesus as her personal savior during her teen years. She was a member of West Somerset Baptist Church. However, the last few years attended First Baptist Church of Somerset.
She is survived by her family that meant the entire world to her. Two daughters, Becki (Jerry) Childers, Beth (Tim) Beshears both of Somerset, and two sons, Sonny (Kim) Long of London and Edwin (Natalie) Sellers of Somerset.
Eight Grandchildren, Kerri (Billy Dean) Shelton, Dylan (Sasha) Beshears, Tyler (Briley) Jackson, Jerrod Childers, Caleb Long, Kylie Long, Parker Sellers and Shelbi Sellers.
Five Great Grandchildren, Kynlee and Kanyon Shelton, Tate Jackson, Blake and Callie Beshears.
One sister, Margaret (John Robert) Silvers , one brother, Howard “Peewee” Bell both of Somerset.
Proceeded in death other than her parents, husband Edwin Wayne Sellers and husband Sherman Kaye Bates. Her maternal grandparents, James Henry and Mattie Girkey, paternal grandparents, James Perry and Sarah Elizabeth Daulton Prather. Siblings, Beatrice (Jack) Turpen, Jimmy (Jonell) Prather, Sarah Jane Posey, William “Bill” (Margaret) Prather.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 14, 2023 at First Baptist Church, 128 N Main St. Somerset, KY. beginning at 11:00 am – 3:00 pm. Funeral will follow on Monday at 3:00pm.
Burial will be at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
Officiating the service will be Pastors Ryan Coffey and Bill Fort.
Pallbearers, Her son in laws Jerry Childers and Tim Beshears. Grandsons, Dylan Beshears, Tyler Jackson, Jerrod Childers, Caleb Long and Parker Sellers.
