Mary Ritter Lee passed away on November 2, 2022, at the age of 89.
Mary was the youngest of the seven children of Lawrence and Lillian Ritter of Monticello Street in Somerset, Kentucky. She attended St. Mildred’s School and graduated from Somerset High School in 1951 where she was the band sponsor her senior year. She was very popular, high spirited, and was always known for her funny sense of humor. Once, she told a high school friend that she’d be at the football game on Friday night “with bells on” and then literally showed up wearing a poodle skirt that she had sewn bells onto!
Mary wedded her beloved Naval Officer, Calvin Lee in 1955 in Jacksonville, Florida. They had three children and were happily married while moving around the USA as Calvin served as a Navy pilot. Mary proved to be very artistic and decorated her homes beautifully, especially during the holidays. She was well known for her detailed painted ceramics and won awards for them in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. Tragically, Calvin died suddenly in 1969 at the age of 42.
In her 40’s, Mary came to know and love the Lord Jesus and attended three bible schools, majoring in Evangelism. She spoke at many women’s church events and wrote a book called Victory in Jesus. Mary always dressed herself so well; coordinating her clothes and accessories; even in her assisted living home, she was known for her pretty outfits and costume jewelry.
Mary loved her extended family of siblings, nieces, and nephews, who knew her as “Aunt Patsy.” She loved her three children and five grandchildren. The last two decades, Mary lived in Cartersville, Georgia and was active in the Liberty Square Church of God for many years. She is survived by her children Tina Lee Christopher of Cartersville, GA, Scott Lee of Jacksonville, FL, and Mary Irvin of Pensacola, FL, as well as her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We are comforted to know that she is in Heaven in the arms of Jesus now.
A funeral service will be held in Somerset, Kentucky at 12 PM Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home.
Mary will be laid to rest in the Somerset City Cemetery next to her loving husband, Calvin.
