Lois Christine (Rice) Richardson passed away peacefully on June 25th, 2024 at the Somerset, KY home of her daughter and son-in-law Karen Richardson-Britt and David Britt.
She was born in Shepola, KY (now Nancy) to Erver and Olena Rice, one of two girls in a family of ten children. She attended Nancy High School and grew up in the Sardis United Methodist Church.
Lois married Clifford Richardson of Delmer on July 7th, 1945, at the parsonage of the Somerset United Methodist Church. They had six children. Clifford was called to the ministry after their marriage and Lois wore many hats as a pastor's wife. They moved around to various places in Kentucky, Ottawa, IL, Springfield, OH, and North Port, FL.
She worked various jobs in her life including Hughes Department Store in downtown Somerset, Palm Beach, as a nurse's aide at Booth Hospital in Covington, KY, Springfield Laundry, and finally retiring after working as a Cottage Counselor at FF Meuller, a residential care center in Springfield, OH. She was a caregiver for the elderly in Florida. Lois did not have any earthly enemies due to her sweet, agreeable, and selfless nature.
Lois is survived by her children: Donald Richardson of North Port, FL, Pamela (Ron) Craig of Cincinnati, OH. Brenda Bowers of Springfield, OH, and Karen (David) Britt of Somerset, KY; seven grandchildren, Kristine Rodriguez, of North Port, FL, Rick Hockensmith (Kate), of North Port, FL; Shannon McDonald (Gary), of Lisbon, OH, Ted Hockensmith (Sarah), of North Port, FL, Nathan Richardson (Melissa) of Windsor, OH, Matthew Bowers, of Springfield, OH, and McKenzie Wuebker (Derek), of New Lebanon, OH.; She had 12 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Tony (Pat) Rice of Dayton, OH, and Lennis Rice of Somerset, KY, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughters, Carolyn Sue, who passed in infancy, and Priscilla; brothers and sisters-in-law, John (Helen) Rice, James (Geneva) Rice, Lowell (Shirley) Rice, Thomas (Lois Ann) Rice, Arthur (Phyllis) Rice, and Wesley Rice; one sister and brother-in-law, Ben and Lucille Moody; and one sister-in-law, Doris Rice.
The family will receive friends Monday, July 1st, 2024 at the First Baptist Church of Somerset from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday at the First Baptist Church of Somerset. Burial will follow at Whitus Cemetery.
