Joyce Faye Detherage

Joyce Faye Hampton Detherage, age 97, passed from this life and joined her heavenly family on April 23, 2023.  She was born on October 6, 1925 in Rockcastle County, Kentucky to Walter Charles and Stella Ester (Thompson) Hampton. 
She is preceded in death by her husband Donald Jack Detherage whom she married on March 18, 1944. Along with her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, and her sisters, Norma Thomas, Piccola “Penny” Stephens, and nephew Kendall Thomas, and great grandchild Jarrod Mayfield.
She is survived by one daughter, Donna Jacquelyn “Jackie” Nelson, three grandchildren, Lana (and Fredrick) Mayfield, Jennifer (and Bruce) Gover, and Daniel Nelson, three great grandchildren, Jonathan (and Faith) Nelson, Jessica Nelson, and Justin Mayfield; two great great grandchildren Juno Nelson and Jovie Nelson all of Somerset, nephews, Bob (Charlene) and John Detherage of Louisville, Elon (Betty) Thomas of Crossville, Tennessee and Gary (Patrice) Stevens of Louisville and one niece Marsha (David) Murphy of Wilmore.
Faye worked as a caretaker as a young woman and at the outset of World War II she worked as an aeronautical parts inspector at Wright Aeronautical Company in Dayton, Ohio. She was also employed by Baltimore Gas and Electric, the Somerset Laundry, as a cafeteria worker and briefly at Roses Department Store in downtown Somerset, Kentucky.
Throughout her life, Faye was an avid painter and kept busy with many hand crafts such as quilting, crocheting, macramé, and ceramics. She loved music and singing and spending winters in Florida with her husband Jack.
She was a devoted Christian and active member of Beacon Hill Baptist Church and Sunday School teacher and choir member for many years at Pulaski Baptist Church. 
A funeral service for Faye Detherage will be held at the Pulaski Funeral Home  at 12:00 noon Wednesday, April 26 2023 with Bro. Brad Gover officiating. Burial will follow in the Pulaski Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family of Mrs. Joyce Faye Hampton Detherage will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Wednesday, April 26th.
In lieu of flowers the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Hospice of Lake Cumberland  100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, KY 42503 or the Gideon Memorial Bible Plan.
