Johnetta Owsley, age 83, died Saturday, November 25, 2023 at her home in Columbus, Ohio of natural causes.
She was born in Somerset, Kentucky on November 24, 1940, daughter of the late John and Arletta Owsley. She is a graduate of Dunbar and Somerset High School. After graduation, Johnetta journeyed out on her own, where she ended up in Boston and lived for years until her mother became ill. She decided to give up her career and move back to Somerset to care for her mother until her passing. During this time, her sister, Betty, became ill and Johnetta decided to extend her stay to care for Betty until her passing. As Johnetta was single with no children, she sort of adopted her brother Robert's children as a second mother, and they loved her for being the kind person she was. The children were able to go to Johnetta to get items they could not get from their parents. Johnetta sacrificed her life and career to make things better for siblings, as they were all married and had careers, making things somewhat better because she was there.
Johnetta is survived by two brothers, Robert & (Christina) Owsley of Arlington, TX, and Jerry Owsley, of Columbus, OH; one sister, Cornelia Grider of Milwaukee, WI; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Betty Owsley Johnson and Katherine Slaughter.
A graveside ceremony will be held Thursday, March 21, 2023 at Mt. Olive Cemetery at 3 PM in Somerset, Kentucky.
Pulaski Funeral Home is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
