John was an accomplished golfer, having won the Lexington City Championship in the late 1970’s and qualifying for the US Public Links tournament on two occasions. He and his son, Kevin, won the Kentucky State Father-Son championship in 1991. He loved the game of golf and won many invitational tournaments in the 1970s through the 1990s. He leaves many friendships that were developed while on the golf course.

Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, a private graveside service will be held at Science Hill Cemetery with Brother Mark Sarver officiating. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Gideon Memorial Bible Plan.
