Mr. Jessie R. "Jess" Gossett, son of the late Luther and Therma Maples Gossett, was born in Piggot, Arkansas on June 01, 1939 and he departed this life on Sunday, November 17, 2019 having attained the age of 80 years.Jessie is survived by his sons, Tony Gossett, Michael (and Debbie) Gossett, Bill (and Vicki) Edwards, and Rod (and Kelli) Edwards, a very special companion, Fay Mays and a vast host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and other relatives who mourn his passing.Other than his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Ray Edwards Gossett, and his sister, Willa Mae Bertotti.Jess attended Madison Heights High School in Michigan where he played center on the basketball team, played on the football team, including an undefeated season in 1956, and he competed in several events on the track team. Jess held several school and regional records in track including the high jump and the half mile. He was honored to have carried the Olympic torch for the 1960 Squaw Valley California Winter Olympics.Mr. Gossett worked for the Leer Siegler Company and moved from Michigan to Somerset when they opened the plant locally. From the mid 1970's to the late 1980's he was the owner operator of Convenient Chevron, which was at the site of the current Dunkin Donuts. He later went on to work at Burnside Marina for many years until he retired in the mid 2000's.He was an avid lover of hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He competed regularly in Midway Discount, Daves Outdoor Life and other various fishing tournaments.In the years since retirement he has enjoyed raising gardens, cooking, telling jokes and stories, whittling unique cedar ladders, and spending time with his dog; Buddy. He attended Rock Lick Baptist Church and recently joined the church in membership.The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Harold Helton, whom Jess held in very high regard, the staff at Somerset Dialysis Center, and many various nurses, therapists, and caregivers for their wonderful care that was provided for Jess over the last 2 years. The family is forever grateful.A funeral service will be held for Jess at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 22, 2019 at the chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Brad Gover officiating. Burial will follow in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens. The family of Jessie Gossett will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home after 5:00 p.m. Thursday November 21,2019. In lieu of flowers the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Rock Lick Baptist Church.Pulaski Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Jessie Gossett.
