James Floyd Phelps, age 88, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Hospice of Lake Cumberland. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.
Born on July 12, 1936, to the late Oran and Alpha Phelps in White Lily, Kentucky, Floyd spent his life in the area he loved. He married Irene Phelps on January 6, 1954, and together they built a life filled with love and devotion until her passing. Floyd was a long-time member of White Lily Baptist Church and devoted many years of service to his community, including as a charter member of the White Lily Fire Department.
Floyd was a loving father to his two daughters, Connie (& Bill) Vaught and Regina (& Daniel) Howard, and a proud grandfather to Joshua Vaught, Amanda (& Brandon) Ballou, and Matthew Howard. He was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Hayden Vaught, Ben Ballou, and John Ballou. He is survived by his sister Faye Mounce, his brothers, Lloyd Ronald (& Peggy) Phelps and Don Richard Phelps, and his sister-in-law, Glenda Phelps. He was also dearly loved by Anna Meece Carty, who was like a granddaughter to him.
Floyd was preceded in death by his grandson, Travis Vaught, and his brother, Jackie Phelps.
A graveside service to honor Floyd's life will be held on Tuesday, January 14th, at 1:00 PM at White Lily Cemetery, with Bro. David Harmon officiating.
The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and support they have received during this difficult time. Floyd will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the White Lily Cemetery Fund in memory of Floyd's dedication to his community.
