Irene Phelps, age 89, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away Monday, February 12, 2024 at Somerwoods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Irene was born November 8, 1934 to the late Alfred Ira and Cordia Baker in White Lily, Kentucky. She married the love of her life, James Floyd Phelps on January 6, 1954, with whom she spent 70 years of her life with until her passing. She was a member of White Lily Baptist Church for many years, and volunteered as a member for several years at the White Lily Fire Department. In her free time, she enjoyed quilting and going to church.
She is survived by her husband, James Floyd Phelps; two daughters, Connie & (Bill) Vaught and Regina & (Daniel) Howard; three grandchildren, Josh Vaught, Amanda & (Brandon) Ballou, and Matthew Howard; and three great-grandchildren, Hayden Vaught, Ben Ballou, and John Ballou.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Lois & (Carl) Meece; one brother, Ercie Baker; and one grandson, Travis Vaught.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 1:00 PM at White Lily Cemetery with Bro. David Harmon officiating.
