Ilse Gibson

Ilse Rosa Gibson, 93, passed away on June 26th, 2021 in Somerset, Ky following a lengthy illness.

Ilse was born on March 1,1928 in Straubing, West Germany to Johan and Katarina (Popp) Steiger.
She was the wife of Elmer P. Gibson, who preceded her in death on October 9, 2002.

She is survived by her daughter Melissa and son in law of 25 years Allen Sexton, a Sister; Elizabeth Pfaffl of Munich, Germany and a brother ; Franz Steiger of Straubing, Germany and her personal caregivers; Fannie Ball and Kathy Smith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Johan And Katarina Steiger, four brothers; Rudolf, Hans, Alois, and Herbert all of Straubing, six sisters Anna, Irma, Erna, of Straubing, Germany, Johanna of Munich, Katarina of Hungary and Rosa of Aberdeen, Maryland, her Mother and Father in Law; Milton and Martha Gibson, 3 brother in laws; Clifton James (Phyllis), Russell (Elaine) and Johnny Gibson, three Sisters in Law Thelma (Stanley) Smith, Mary (John) Donovan, and Delvere ( Johnny) Flynn. She was also preceded by her beloved Grand-Dog Surry Grace Sexton.

Ilse was an active member of St. Mildred's Catholic Church where she served as Eucharistic Minister for many years.

She loved spending time with her grand-dog Surry and enjoyed walking, attending Southwestern High School's basketball games, playing Rook, traveling and spending time with her family both here in Kentucky and those she visited often in Germany.
She was a devoted wife and mother who was loved by her many friends, nieces and nephews , who will all mourn her passing.

Visitation for Mrs. Gibson will be held Thursday, July 1, 2021 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at St. Mildred's Catholic Church in Somerset , Kentucky. Funeral services will be held at St. Mildred's Catholic Church on Friday, July 2, 2021 at 11:00 A.M.

Burial will follow in Mill Springs National Cemetery.
