Glenna Conley Jackson was born July 27th, 1926 in Mill Springs Community of Wayne County, KY and she passed away on November 20th, 2024 having attained the age of 98 years. She was the daughter of Frank and Bonnie Cooper Conley. They preceded her in death.
Glenna attended Cumberland College and Eastern Kentucky University after graduating from Wayne County High School. She taught education in Wayne County and Monticello Schools before moving to Burnside where she taught education for 19 years.
She was united in marriage to Mr. Kenneth Jackson. He was the love of her life. Glenna is survived by her children; Kendra (and Rick) Cunnagin and Frank (and Mary) Jackson; her step-daughter, Ginny Lou Jackson; three grandchildren, Jordan Cunnagin, Paige (and KC) Cunnagin Latham, and Keshia Jackson (and Shane Burton); and four great grandchildren, Rex Kendrick Latham, Connor Burton, Kinsley Burton and Kyra Burton.
Glenna lost her husband after 15 years together in 1972. She continued to teach until 1985 having taught for a total of 30 years. After retirement, Glenna was able to care for her beloved mother until her death in 1996 reaching the age of 97 and 1/2 years of age.
Glenna served on the Burnside Planning and Zoning Commission as Secretary for several years and has always been interested in the beautification and progress of Burnside. She has been a member of the Burnside Women's Civic Club for many years and served 3 years as president as well as serving in all the other offices in the club at various times. She was so proud of the Burnside Women's Civic Club and all the good things they have accomplished, especially the awarding of Scholarships to deserving students.
She enjoyed bowling and the friends she met there. She volunteered for over 5 years at the Center for Rural Development as an usher and at the front desk.
Glenna was a loving mother and grandmother and has attended the First Baptist Church of Somerset for more than 50 years.
Her favorite scripture verse is Proverbs 3:56 which reads; "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths."
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 26th at the First Baptist Church of Somerset, KY. Burial will follow in the Elk Springs Cemetery at 3:330 p.m. later Tuesday afternoon. The family of Mrs. Glenna Jackson will receive friends at the Somerset First Baptist Church from 11:00 a.m. Tuesday until time for services. In lieu of flowers the family suggests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Project 58:10 through the First Baptist Church. This project helps feed school children after school on weekends.
