Gladys Whitaker

Gladys Hargis Whitaker age 96, of Somerset, KY, passed away from this life to her heavenly home on Friday, December 20th, 2024, at Summerwoods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she had been a resident for almost 6 years.

She was born at Ula, Kentucky on April 21st, 1928, daughter of the late Walter and Golda Speaks Hargis. She was united in marriage to Jesse Clell Whitaker on October 21st, 1950. They were married for 67 years. She was a member of Flat Lick Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years. She worked at Palm Beach prior to starting her family. She was a homemaker and an excellent cook and seamstress.

She is survived by two sons; Darrell and (Patricia) Whitaker, and Jeff and (Nettie) Whitaker, as well as one daughter Donna and (Tommy) Turner all of Somerset, Kentucky. She leaves behind five grandchildren, Chris and (Dorinda) Turner, Daon and (Travis) Creech, Nicole and (Greg) Blevins, Heather Whitaker Coffey and (Josh Mullins), and Jesse Whitaker. Ten great grandchildren, Allen Cline, Blake Turner, Allie Blevins, Alex Creech, Tensley Coffey, Addison Blevins, Aizlyn Creech, Tristan Turner, Ansley Blevins, and Kenton Turner.

She is also survived by two sisters Nadine and (Wayne Lee) Phelps and Jetta and (Wayne) Richardson. Also, by two sisters-in-law Mavis Hargis and JoAnn Hargis and two brothers-in-law Carlos Hargis and Gene Whitaker, all of Somerset, KY. Other survivors also include many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Along with her parents and husband, she was also proceeded in death by three brothers, Howard Hargis, Harold and (Betty) Hargis, and Wayne Hargis. She was proceeded in death by five sisters, Vera and (Ray) Hargis, Ella B and (Phillip) Phelps, Imogene and (Arnold) Stogsdill, Violet and (Dewey) Hargis, and Christine Hargis. She was also proceeded in death in two brothers-in-law Edwin and (Geneva) Whitaker and Charles and (Wilda) Whitaker and one sister-in-law Sue Whitaker.

A funeral Service will be held Friday, December 27, 2024, in the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home at 11:00 AM with Bro. Gerald Ashley officiating

The family will receive friends Thursday, December 26, 2024, from 5:00 PM till 8:00 PM in the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home.

She will be laid to rest in the Randall-Herrin Cemetery in Somerset, Kentucky. The Pallbearers will be Greg Blevins, Allen Cline, Alex Creech, Travis Creech, Josh Mullins, Blake Turner, Chris Turner, and Jesse Whitaker.
