Gerald "Jerry" Ray Girkey, Sr., 80, was born on November 11, 1944 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Jesse Clarence Girkey and Mary Elizabeth Mayfield Girkey. He passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at home surrounded by family following a long illness.
He leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Roxana Miller Girkey; daughter, Candice Faith Girkey; son, Gerald "Jay" Ray Girkey, Jr.; and grandson, Daniel Raven & (Brandy) Girkey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and four siblings, Jessie Clarence Girkey, Jr. of Frankfort, Elizabeth "Libby" Girkey Mink of Somerset, James Austin Girkey of Indianapolis, and Mary Jane Girkey Skene of Indianapolis.
Jerry joined the Navy at 17 years old and served four and a half years. He worked most of his adult life as a finishing supervisor at Cumberland Wood & Chair, a finishing supervisor at Crane/Fiat, and a metal worker at Donaldson in Nicholasville. He made a profession of faith and was baptized at Beacon Hill Baptist Church. He was a member of Flat Lick Baptist Church.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Gerald Ashley officiating.
Burial will follow at Mill Springs National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until time for services at Pulaski Funeral Home.
Military honors will be presented by American Legion Post #38.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks expressions of sympathy be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
