Gary Michael Hampton, 71 passed away peacefully from this life on May 30, 2024 after a brief battle with cancer. Gary was born on January 27, 1953 in Hamilton, Ohio to the late Joe and Anna Lee Adams Hampton.
He was Chief of Police in Burnside, Kentucky for 16 years. He also served as the Assistant Chief for the Burnside Fire Department and later retired from the Pulaski County Detention Center.
He was united in marriage to Margie McCann on August 13, 1977. She survives. From this union are two daughters; Rebekah Simpson of Burnside, Kentucky and Elisabeth (and Jonathan) Hardy of Somerset, Kentucky. He is also survived by six grandchildren; Jacob and Rhiannon Simpson, Catherine, James, Claire and Rachel Hardy; his brothers, Harold (and Tina) Hampton, of Burnside, Kentucky and Rickey (and Mandy) Hampton of Lexington, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Cecilia (and Larry) Honeycutt.
Gary was a member of the First Baptist Church of Somerset, Kentucky and served as a Deacon and was on the Security Team. He was an active member of the Burnside Masonic Lodge. He was a charter member of the Point Isabel Eastern Star Chapter and past Worthy Patron.
He enjoyed motorcycle trips with his friends and was a charter member of the Pulaski County Christian Motorcyclists. His pride and joy were his grandchildren.
A funeral service for Gary Michael Hampton will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2024 at the Somerset First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Burnside Cemetery.
The family of Mr. Gary Michael Hampton will receive friends at the Somerset First Baptist Church from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 31st, and from 9:00 a.m. Saturday June 1st, 2024 at the church until time for services.
The family will observe a Masonic service at the Church at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening.
In lieu of flowers the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society or Shiners Hospital for Children.
