Garland Clay Cheuvront, 88, died peacefully at the Jean Waddle Care Center on February 18, 2024. Garland was born February 20,1935, in Winchester, Kentucky. He was the son of Uriel and Marian Cheuvront and was the husband of 67 years, to Jean Cheuvront.
Garland grew up in Winchester and graduated from Winchester High in 1953. He began his career in Winchester at East Kentucky Power in 1955. He transferred to Somerset in 1964 and became Cooper Power Plant Manager in 1978. He was fondly known as "Chevy.” He retired in 1996.
Garland was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Somerset. He joined on February 14,1965, with his wife Jean.
Garland was an avid golfer. He loved the game and was known for being a long driver and a competitor on the course. One of his "claims to fame" was shooting an 83 when he was 83 years old. Golf was more than a game for him. It was his way of making new friends, spending time with old friends, and being with his son, grandsons, and son-in-law.
Garland's greatest achievement was his family. He was a gentle and loving father and a devoted husband. His love and care for Jean during her illness was a beautiful gift to Jean and all of his family.
He is survived by his children: Vicki and son-in-law Darrell Goode and Allan "Boogie" and daughter-in-law Robyn; his grandchildren: Mackey Godby, Shea (Ashley) Cheuvront, Andrew Godby, and Cameron Cheuvront; and his great-grandchildren: Alec and Ben Godby, Olivia Britton, Thompson, and Anderson Cheuvront and Cameron Johnson. He is also survived by siblings: Eddie (Patty) Cheuvront, Bert Cheuvront, and Lou (Paul) DiPaolo, sisters-in-law: Jane Cheuvront and Connye Cheuvront and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Garland was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jean, grandson Josh Godby, and siblings: Joe Cheuvront, Bill Cheuvront, Tom Cheuvront, Rusty Cheuvront, Jeanette Cheuvront Green, Kenneth Cheuvront, Jimmy Cheuvront, and Bobby Cheuvront.
The family of Garland Cheuvront will receive friends at the First Baptist Church of Somerset from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on February 23, 2024. Funeral services will begin at noon with Pastor Ryan Coffey and David Pendley officiating. Entombment will follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
