Garfield Smith

February 15, 1957 — July 29, 2024

Garfield Smith, Jr, son of the late Garfield Smith Sr, and the late Bessie Meeks Smith, was born in Somerset, KY on February 15th, 1957 and he departed this life on July 29, 2024 having attained the age of 67 years. He was first united in marriage to Wilma Cuenco Smith, she survives. To this union was born a daughter, Itosha Smith Meadows, she and her husband Chris Meadows survive. Garfield was later united in marriage to Edith Allison Smith, she preceded him in death.

Other survivors include; four grandchildren, Taylor Kya Dean, Jaidyn Mya Dean, Milla Beau Dean and Harrison Michael Meadows, a cousin and friend, Jeff Allen; a brother, Larry (and Jill) Smith of Hamilton, Ohio; and one Sister, Vona "Bonnie" Johnson.

Other than his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by; nine brothers, Arlee, Grady, Ernold, Raymond, Marconi, Ernest, Jerry, Osby & Orville Smith; and six sisters, Betty Calhoun, Marcia Whitaker, Geraldine Smith, Jeweldine Smith, Oshie Marie Bolin and Opal Burkett.

Garfield was a hard working man who served his country through multiple stents in the military, having served in the Army, The Air Force and the National Guard with more than 22 years of service. He also was a retired state employee having worked at Oakwood of the Bluegrass. He enjoyed farming and gardening, he was a natural care taker, his hobbies included his passion for the military. He was a kind and gentle person who will be deeply missed by all who knew him and leaves a host of relatives and friends who mourn his passing.

A ceremony celebrating his life will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, August 5th, 2024 at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home.

The family of Mr. Garfield Smith, Jr will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. Monday until time for services.

Burial will follow in the Mill Springs National Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post # 38.
