Evelyn Gibson

December 9, 1934 — October 23, 2021

Lillie Evelina Gibson, having attained the age of 86 years passed from this life to her heavenly residence on October 23, 2021.

Evelyn was born on December 9, 1934 in Burnside, Ky to Porter and Mamie Bryant Buckner. She attended and was a graduate of Burnside High School being crowned the first Miss Pulaski County in 1952. She was married to Junior Chyle Gibson on July 24, 1954 spending 49 wonderful years together until his death, they raised 3 sons; Richard, Bud and Bruce. Her primary calling in this life was as a believer in Jesus Christ, devoting her years as a mother and wife but also to her community and church. She started as pianist in 1963 at the Bronston Baptist Church and held that position for 58 years until her death, a role she was devoted to with very few absentees during this responsibility. Evelyn accepted Jesus as her Savior at a very young age, but Bud recalls a memory, as a small boy in church during the altar call his Mom left her piano bench and went to the altar to recommit her life to the Lord to be assured of her salvation. She was also the owner of V.I.P.’s restaurant and café where she greeted the community daily, visited with friends and often had lunch with family or old acquaintances. Those who frequented her daily food stop always looked for Ms. Evelyn’s smile and cheerful countenance. She was an encourager to those suffering, she picked up the low in heart and used her energy and resources to mother and grandmother all in need. Her children called her faithful, she was the glue that held the family together after her husbands’ death in 2003. She bravely stood strong through the loss of her youngest son after his years of illness with diabetes. But her Faith was still strong because her greatest hope was in Jesus Christ her risen Savior, and her daily walk was a reflection of that deep commitment.

She is survived by two sons: Richard and (Vanessa)Gibson, Anthony “Bud “and (Connie) Gibson, both of Somerset. Grandchildren: Suzanne Gibson Harris and(Jim) Danville, Ky., Robin Gibson Burnett, Somerset, Ky., Jared and(Caitlyn) Gibson, Middlesboro, Ky., Blake and (Autumn) Gibson, Somerset, Ky., Siera Gibson Wesley and (Logan) Science Hill, Ky., Camaron Gibson, Bronston, Ky.
