Emma Vanover Shumaker, age 62, of Somerset, Kentucky passed from this life on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at her residence following a short illness.
She was born in Hyden, Kentucky on May 28, 1958 to the late William II and Bonnie Jean Vanover. She was the seventh of their nine children.
Emma is survived by her husband of thirty-eight years, Dennis Shumaker, whom she married on June 19, 1982. Also surviving are her beloved children, Shannon Shumaker, Tim (Heather) Shumaker, Sarah (Ty) Cooper and Lucas (Kayla) Shumaker.
She was blessed to have seven grandchildren she adored, those included Kristian Gleason, Jackson Cooper, Brooklynn Cooper, Mason Cronin, Alivia Shumaker, Maddie Shumaker and Nolan Shumaker.
Siblings surviving to cherish her memory are brothers William III (Pam) Vanover, Terry (Linda) Vanover, Gary (Nancy) Vanover, Michael (Roxanne) Vanover, Lonnie (Robin) Vanover, twin brother Tim (Nancy) Vanover and sister Patty (Tom) Vranesic.
Additional family members playing an important part in Emma's life were sister-in-law Brenda Dail, Bev Weaver and Nancy Bennett, eighteen nieces and nephews and fifty-one great nieces and nephews.
Sherri Peterson had been her treasured best friend for fifty-four years.
Along with her parents Emma was preceeded in death by one sister, Carol Whitaker, her mother-in-law Phena Shumaker, a very special brother-in-law Barry Dail, niece Leona Key, nephew Jeff Whitaker and a wonderful sister-in-law Carol Vanover, who was like a second mother.
Over the course of her twenty-eight year career at AHF Products, several of her co-workers became life-long friends. She appreciated her job and those she worked with every day.
A woman of strong faith and conviction, Emma made her church home at Burnside Christian Church and deeply loved her church family.
Emma will be missed by all who knew her. Her kind spirit and gentle personality touched all those who came in contact with her. Her selflessness was a gift she provided to everyone whether it be family, friends or a complete stranger. She was always doing for others. Her generous heart will be forever remembered.
A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Monday, March 22, 2021 at Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Ogle officiating.
Burial will follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends after 11 AM Monday, March 22, 2021 at Pulaski Funeral Home until time for services.
