Edwin Earl Silvers

Ed passed away at the age of 96, on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena, MN, under the gentle care of Knute Nelson Hospice and Homecare. 
 
Edwin was born to Earl and Velva (Dick) Silvers on December 2, 1922, in Hickory Nut Ridge, KY. He completed the eighth grade. During WWII Edwin served in the Philippines, India and Japan as a Staff Sargent in the US Army Air Force from March 12, 1943 until his honorable discharge on May 2, 1952. 
 
Ed was united in marriage with Dortha Mae Baker on December 10, 1952, and they made their home in Detroit, MI.  Ed continued his mechanics career with Mack Trucks as a heavy duty and auto mechanic for 20 years. In 1972, they moved to Bertha where Ed continued to provide mechanic services to the surrounding community. He was a gifted mechanic who enjoyed a challenging project, teaching others what he discovered, and sharing his knowledge.

Edwin was a loyal and loving husband to his wife Dortha who preceded him in death on October 29, 2013; also preceding Edwin in death were parents Earl and Velva ; and daughter Roxanne Silvers.
 
Edwin is survived by his daughter Carmen Silvers; grandchildren Stephanie Dettwiler-Silvers, Skye Reyes and Lila Morales; and sister in law Carol Hughes (Baker).

 

Funeral services for Edwin Earl Silvers of rural Bertha will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 28, 2018 at the Schuller Family Funeral Homes’ Domian-Anderson Chapel in Bertha. Friends and family will gather at the funeral home on Friday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of services.

 

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, January 7, 2018 at Fishing Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Somerset, Kentucky where burial will follow.
