Doris Hail

February 3, 1939 — July 6, 2021

Doris Burton Hail, born Doris Ann Burton, was born on February 3rd, 1939. She passed away from this life on July 6th, 2021. She was the daughter of Joseph Clark and Beatrice Denham Burton, and she was born in Somerset, Kentucky; she had four siblings: Lawrence, Howard, Jean, and Margie. She married Mark Duane Hail on September 1, 1961, and they had one child, Michael Wayne Hail.


Aside from her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings Lawrence, Howard, and Jean, as well as her husband Mark and her son Michael. She is survived by her sister Margie and her daughter in law Charlotte Hail, as well as her two grandchildren Michael Allen Charles and Sarah Ann Hail.


She is an alum of Berea College. For most of her career, she was an elementary school teacher at various elementary schools in the Somerset Independent school system, including Memorial Elementary, Parker Elementary, and Hopkins Elementary. She was passionate about reading and deeply loved sharing that passion with children. In her later career, that passion led her to being a librarian at Pulaski County Public Library.


Outside of her career, Doris was a skilled piano player who loved playing hymns. Her faith was important to her, and she attended a variety of Baptist churches around Pulaski County. Her husband Mark was a pastor, and they attended both Eden Baptist and Mount Victory Baptist for a number of years. Her most recent church was Duke Memorial Baptist.


She will be remembered as a loving sister, mother, and grandmother. Her gentleness and immense kindness was something admired by her family, her church community, and her students. She touched many people’s lives and truly embodied the spirit of the Lord. Her love of reading, piano, puzzles, and Elvis will be dearly missed by her family who can no longer share them with her

Her funeral will be at 10:30 AM on Monday, July 12th, at Pulaski County Funeral Home. Those who would like to attend are welcome to.
