Connie Kelly

March 21, 1952 — August 22, 2024

Connie Lou Kelly, 72, of Eubank, Kentucky, fell asleep in The Lord on Thursday, August 22, 2024 following a brief illness.

Born in Scott County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Mason Kelly, and Vernie Duff Kelly. In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her brothers, Lynn and Doyle Kelly, and her boyfriend of 33 years, Robert Sloan. Bob and Connie lived in Aurora, Illinois prior to moving to Eubank, Kentucky.

She is survived by her sister, Janet Howard, and brothers, Steve, JT, Dale, Elvest, and Vince Kelly, along with several nieces and nephews, all of Lexington area.

Connie was a kind-hearted generous soul who would give you the shirt off her back. She lived humbly and was always ready to lend a hand. She kept a watchful eye out for strange vehicles or anything unusual happening for her neighbors. We could all learn something about being a good person from Connie.

Over the past 8 years, Connie was a daily integrated part of Mary Jo and Shannon Martin's lives and had become part of their family. Holidays, family gatherings, and backyard barbeques were not complete without her.

She loved Shannon and her children, Maggie, Thomas, Gertie, and Josie, as her own. Connie attended their childhood milestones, graduations, marching band performances, school concerts, and birthdays.

Connie and Mary Jo were helpmates, friends and sidekicks who navigated many an adventure together, ranging from errands, shopping, and Pow Wows to Pumpkin Barns, Gospel music, and flea markets. We could all learn something about being a good friend from Connie.

Connie loved dogs. She rescued Little Tasha from the Pulaski County Humane Society and then had Gossie, a basset hound. Bandit, her Corgi, won 1st place in the Eubank Park 4th of July celebration. Her last two, Maggie and Daisey, whose litters she raised, even went to see her in the hospital.

Connie was part Cherokee and was excited to go to the Richmond, KY Pow Wow where she mingled with others of Native descent in their full regalia.

She liked Western Cowboy movies and old TV shows. Elvis never had a bigger fan! You could find her listening to Elvis, Patsy Cline, George Jones, and Loretta Lynn on any given day, but she was really in her glory when she was singing along with Tommy Cate's Gospel Hour Band live at the Jarfly in Somerset.

Occasionally, Connie would ride along with Shannon to the Cookville horse auction in Tennessee and then for the next few weeks, she'd talk about maybe putting a horse in her backyard.

Connie did her share of mowing until recently and liked sitting in her well-groomed yard to watch the comings and goings of Eubank's Main Street. She frequented Belchers Grocery Store on the regular to socialize with "the girls" and she formed friendships with all the Dollar General gals as well. She was fond of her neighbors, Lorri and Amanda, and often spoke about watching Aiden and Cheyenne grow up.

She was a member of The Mountain Moms organization in Monticello, KY, and attended Bingo, luncheons, holiday parties, and outdoor gatherings.

Connie had beautiful white hair and sky-blue eyes. She was quite a character who could be feisty and stubborn.

In her later years, she chose to live her life on her own terms. When confronted with her unexpected terminal illness and was facing her last days she never complained. We could all learn something about courage from Connie.

She was saved by Dan and Joyce Martin of the Maupin Church in Albany, KY.

A memorial celebration of life will be held at the Eubank Community Center on September 15, 2024 from 1-3 pm.

Connie is greatly missed and will be remembered daily. Rest in Peace, Connie.
