Charles Halleck Flynn, son of the late Mabel (Hardwick) Flynn and Robert Halleck Flynn, was born on August 20, 1936 in Somerset, KY and he departed this life on February 10, 2021 having attained the age of 84 years.
He was united in marriage to Monica Tegner Flynn, she survives. Other survivors include; four children, Jacqlyn Longwell (George) of Falls Church, VA, June (and Bob) Degenhardt of Richmond, VA, Steven Flynn (Kelly O' Connor) of Warrenton, VA and Jon Flynn (Kelly) of Ashland, WI; nine grandchildren, Alexis Longwell, Hanna (and Michael) Telford, Robert Longwell, Kyle Degenhardt, Amanda Degenhardt, Jason Flynn, Dr. Autumn Flynn (and Dr.David Vogt), Shenandoah Flynn, and Jackson Flynn.
He leaves a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Other than his parents, he is also preceded in death by; his three older sisters, Zelleen, Elizabeth, and Roberta.
Charlie's family lived on a farm in the Pisgah Community, they were members of the Pisgah Church, and the children attended the Pisgah School.
Charlie played football and basketball at Somerset High School, he also ran the high hurdles. He completed his high school education at Somerset High School, obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Kentucky and received graduate degrees from The American Institute of Banking, Virginia / Maryland School of banking at the University of Virginia, and the Banking School of the South at Louisiana State University.
He was member of the Fallsfax Optimist Club, a officer of the McLean Business and Professional Organization, and a member and past president of the Falls Church Rotary Club. He was a longtime member and Treasurer of the Bruen Chapel United Methodist Church, the former treasurer of the Bruen Chapel Methodist Men's Club, both in Virginia.
Charlie met Monica Tegner just 3 days after she arrived in the United States from Sweden. Fourteen months later, they were married in the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC this was on June 29, 1963. The lived in and raised their children in Virginia.
In 2006 after a high school class reunion, Charlie longed to move back home to Somerset, KY. So, two years later he and Monica moved back to the Pisgah Community where he was member and former treasurer of the Pisgah Presbyterian Church. They have lived at Pisgah until the present.
A funeral service for Charlie Flynn will be held at the Pisgah Presbyterian Church on Saturday March 20, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. Greg Ryan officiating. Burial will follow in the Somerset Cemetery.
The family of Mr. Charlie Flynn will receive friends at the church from 12 noon until time for services.
