Billy Eugene Collins, 94, of Burnside, KY, departed this world Friday, January 5, 2024 at his residence after a battle with cancer.
He was born March 16, 1929 in Benham, KY to the late Henry Clay & Arlena Collins, and attended Benham High School. He moved to Cleveland, OH in 1952 and worked as a machinist, contract painter and a truck driver. In 1957, he went to work at GE where he worked from Maintenance to Supervisor in Production to Project & Process Engineer. In 1976, he moved to Burnside, KY and worked for Tecumseh as an engineer until his retirement in 1991. He also worked on the South Fork Railroad for 18 years playing music and was a member of the house band at Renfro Valley.
Billy held many different hobbies, one of which including playing and listening to bluegrass music. He also spent his free time woodworking, making various wooden instruments including dulcimers, banjos, and Native American flutes. On top of all of this, he thoroughly loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory three children, Thurman Collins of Willoughby, OH, Karen & (Richard) Miller of LeRoy, OH, and Phillip Collins & (Jennifer Brock) of Burnside, KY; fifteen grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and a beloved friend, Dot Arn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wilma Jacqueline Collins; and nine brothers and sisters.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 12:00 PM in the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with Rev. Hamp Wooten officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 AM until time for service at Pulaski Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in Sloans Valley Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made to to Wooten Ministries.
