Betty Adkins

Betty Adkins, 89, of Somerset, Kentucky passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. 

She was born in Betsy Layne, Kentucky on May 8, 1935 to the late Curtis and Reno Horn Smith. Betty graduated from Betsy Layne High School. After graduation, she married Sammie Adkins, Jr. and moved to Dayton, Ohio. Betty worked for the Kroger Corporation in Dayton, Ohio. When she and her family moved to Somerset, she transferred to the Kroger store that was located on East Mt. Vernon Street at that time. Betty went on to work at Kroger during the building and grand opening of the store at Grand Central Place. She was the manager of the Seafood Department. Her excellent customer service and charismatic personality landed her in a TV commercial for Kroger. She was advertising live Lobsters and fresh Lobster tails! After 40 years of service to Kroger, Betty retired and began volunteering for Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in the gift shop. She enjoyed traveling with Senior Friends, whether a day trip to the ballpark or a weeklong excursion to the Bahamas. Betty was also an avid bowler which also took her to many major cities across the United States. At age 74, she won the Kentucky, United States Bowling Congress Women's Bowling Association's 28th Championship Tournament, and earned a trip to Reno, Nevada to compete in the National Senior Bowling Tournament. Her Motto was "Go While You Can! 

Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church and is survived by two sons; Ted (and Julie) Adkins of Russell Springs, KY and Tim (and Angela) Adkins of Somerset, KY; four grandchildren, Dustin Adkins (and Tosha) , Haley Adkins (and Chuck) , Callie Adkins (and Josh), and Landry Wilson; one great grandchild, Harper Grey Adkins. She is also survived by one brother; Roy Smith of Pikeville, KY and one sister; Joann Hall of Dayton, Ohio. 

Other than her parents, and her husband, Rev. Sammie Adkins, Jr, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Jack Smith .  Her life was a blessing and she will be deeply missed by a host of family and friends who mourn her passing. 

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 28th 2024 at the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. David Pendley officiating.  

Burial will follow in the Mill Springs National Cemetery at Nancy, KY. 

The family will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home on Thursday, June 27th, 2024 from 5 to 8 p.m.
