Bernita Gwendolyn Meece, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at the UK Bluegrass Hospice Care Center in Lexington, KY.
She was born September 25, 1933 to the late Otis and Alma (Stewart) Mounce in Somerset. Throughout her life, Bernita demonstrated a vibrant spirit and an unyielding passion for the arts. As a teenager, she sang in a gospel quartet on the radio, a testament to her love for music that would accompany her throughout her life. Her artistic talents extended beyond music; she was also known for her remarkable painting skills and culinary prowess, often delighting those around her with her delicious home-cooked meals.
Bernita found joy in a variety of hobbies and interests, which included gardening and fishing. Her love for nature was evident in the beautiful gardens she tended, which reflected her artistic eye and nurturing spirit. These pursuits not only brought her personal fulfillment but also served as a way for her to connect with others, sharing her passions with family and friends.
Bernita is survived by her five children, Sandra & (Rex) Stevens, Barbara Bullock, Teresa & (Doug) Muse, Angela & (Neal) Jackson, and Tony Keith Meece; seven grandchildren, Chasity Rollins, Jessica Roberts, Christopher & (Billie) Muse, Amy & (Joel) Keefe, Ryan & (Renee) Muse, Natasha & (Sam) Hall, and Dustin Meece & (Jessica Burton); eight great-grandchildren, Spencer Rollins, Sophia Rollins, Abilene Muse, Parker Muse, Maggie Muse, Lily Hall, Luna Meece, and Sunni James Meece; one sister, Lucille Hargis; and one brother, Howard Mounce.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis & Alma Mounce; her husband, James Meece; two sons, Robert Meece and Jeffery Meece; and one brother, Johnny Mounce.
A memorial service for Bernita will be held Monday, October 28, 2024 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at Malvin Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 11:00 AM until time for services.
In lieu of flowers, the family of Bernita Meece has requested expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to Malvin Hill Baptist Church Cemetery and White Lily Baptist Church Cemetery.
