Bro. Ewell Hargis, son of the late George and Ada Chaney Hargis, was born at Ula, KY on July 14, 1928 and born again on September 10, 1945, he departed this life on Saturday, January 28, 2007 having attained the age of 78 years.
He was united in marriage to Mrs. Lelia Brown Hargis on November 16, 1957, she survives. Other survivors include; one daughter, Bridget (and Scott) Henry of Kannapolis, North Carolina; two sons, Lyle (and Karen) Hargis of Batavia, Ohio and Evan and Melody Hargis of Somerset, KY; Seven Grandchildren, Matthew and Taylor Henry, Brandon Hargis, Robert and Timmy Berling, and Courtney and Ben Hargis of Somerset, KY; four sisters, Elva (and Lacy) Greer of Loveland, Ohio; Beulah Robertson of Hamilton, Ohio, and Wilma Mounce and Zelta DeBorde both of Somerset, KY; and two brothers, Denton (and Marilyn) Hargis of Milford, OH, and Kenneth (and Pat) Hargis of Nicholasville, KY.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by; one sister, Zelma Hargis.
Ewell was a member of the West Somerset Baptist Church, he accepted the call to preach the gospel on February 17, 1957 and Graduated from the Eastern Baptist Institute on May 15, 1963, he was the former administator and instructor for the Somerset Baptist Bible Institute and is the current representative and instructor for the Cumberland Baptist Institute.
Ewell has pastored the following churches; Whetstone Baptist Church; Bradley's Pleasure Baptist Church; West Somerset Baptist Church; New Hope Baptist Church; Grace Baptist Church in Corning, Arkansas; East Somerset Baptist Church; Franklin Street Baptist Church in Hamilton, OH; Chimney Rock Baptist Church; White Lily Baptist Church; and Ephesus Baptist Church in Lincoln County, KY.
He was a Korean War Veteran and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army
He was a kind person and will be greatly missed by all who knew him, he leaves a host of relatives, friends and church family who both mourn his passing and celebrate his home going.
Funera services will be held at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2007 with Bro. Larry Butte, Bro. Darry Hatfield and Bro. Raymond Hail officiating. Burial will follow in the Somerset Cemetery.
The family of Bro. Ewell Hargis will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, Janauary 30, 2007 at the Funeral Home. The family also requests that in Leiu of flowers, expressions of Sympathy take the formm of Donations to the Cumberland Baptist Institute at P. O. Box 3383, West Somerset, KY 42564. Envelopes will be available at Pulaski Funeral Home.
