Mr. Gilbert Edwin “Gib” Girdler, of Somerset, KY passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2010 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital having attained the age of 83 years.
He was born at Eubank, KY on September 26, 1927, son of the late Belle McDonald Girdler and Clarence Girdler. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Somerset, KY, was a graduate of Eubank High School and a 1950 graduate of Berea College with a degree in Agriculture.
He was instructor of Agriculture for WWII veterans from 1950-1953. He was the manager of member services of the South Kentucky Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation for his career. He was author and co-author of the original Local and National Electrical Code Book. He worked with local 4-H Clubs and was active in many community civic clubs and projects including; the Presidency of the Eubank Ruritan Club, Somerset Kiwanis Club and the Somerset Country Club.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Yaden Girdler of Somerset, whom he married on October 11, 1952; one sister, Pauline Girdler Jones (and Sam) of Somerset, KY; one nephew, Samuel Kemp Jones (and Ann); one great nephew, Riley Carlton Jones of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. “Gib” was known, loved and respected by a host of friends and relatives. Some very special lifelong friends were Jim and Faye Crowe and their children who became “Adopted Grandchildren.”
He was preceded in death by his parents. Gib was a kind person who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He leaves a host of relatives and friends who mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. David Pendley officiating. Burial will follow in the Eden Cemetery.
The family of Mr. Gilbert Girdler will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. Wednesday until time for services.
In lieu of flowers the family of Mr. Gilbert Girdler requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to The ALS Association (Lou Gehrigs) in care of the Fist Baptist Church, Somerset, KY.
