Margaret Claunch Coffman-Beauchamp, 79, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010 at her residence.
She was born in the Waitsboro community on the Cumberland River of Pulaski County on March 15, 1931, daughter of the late John Harley and Ruth Rhoton Claunch. Margaret was a cheerleader at Somerset High School, graduating in 1948 and a member of the National Honor Society her Junior and Senior years. She was a member of Somerset Country Club, Lake Cumberland Ladies Golfers Association and Eagles Nest Country Club. She was an employee of Kentucky Water Service from 1950 to 1991. Margaret was a member of First Baptist Church and also active at Pisgah Presbyterian Church. She was the first woman to be President of the Somerset County Club in 1992 and later served another term as President 2000. She served on the board of directors of Somerset Country Club for over 10 years, she also held other various positions during her tenure. She was the most instrumental person to push through the development of the back nine holes at the Somerset Country Club. For ten years, 1988 to 1998, Margaret organized the Charles Coffman Memorial Cancer Golf Tournament with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society, where she served as President in 1987. She was an avid golfer. Most recently she enjoyed Bridge and Arizona Rummy.
She is survived by one son, Charles Thomas “Tom” Coffman Jr., formerly of Dallas, TX, who now resides in Nashville, TN, her husband, Clark Beauchamp, whom she married in 1995, three step daughters, Laura & (Andrew) Farina of Charlotte, NC, Jennifer & (Dan) McManus of Levittown, PA and Leslie Beauchamp of Frankfort, KY, two step grandchildren, Thomas Farina and Caitlin Farina, both of Charlotte, NC, niece, Marcia Jean Parker of Iona, MI, great-nephew, Ray Parker and great-niece, Laura Parker.
She married Charles T. Coffman Sr. on June 3, 1950, who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her parents, sister, Virginia Claunch Luttrell and her husband, Gurney Duke Luttrell, two nephews, Stephen Duke and Jimmy John Luttrell.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with Rev. David Pendley officiating.
Burial will be in Pisgah Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 PM Monday at Pulaski Funeral Home.
