Richard Simpson

Mr. Richard Simpson, son of the late Jake B. and Gertrude Taylor Simpson, was born in Knoxville, TN on June 24, 1927 and he departed this life in Somerset, KY on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 having attained the age of 82 years. He was united in marriage to Janie Capps Simpson, she preceded him in death. He later married Rita Helton Simpson on June 11, 1986, she survives. Other survivors include three children; Richard Ronald (and Luanne Tackett) Simpson, Carolyn (and Robert) Sutherlin, Mike (and Tammie) Simpson, a daughter-in-law; Glenda Simpson Graff; six grandchildren, Monica Paige Simpson, Richard Todd Simpson, Wendell Noel Scott Simpson, Lisa Sutherlin Jackson, Robert Grant Southerlin, and Heather Simpson Merritt; four great grandchildren; William Thomas Merritt, Joseph Michael Merritt, Victoria Brooke Sutherlin, and Amelia Jane Sutherlin; two sisters, Ruth Hancock and Frances Preston; one sister-in-law, Wanda Simpson and a number of beloved nephews and nieces who mourn his passing. Other than his parents, and first wife, he is also preceded in death by; one son, Robert Hugh Simpson; six brothers, Raymond, J.B., Hugh, Kenneth, Jack and Fred Simpson; and three sisters, Wilma Sparks, Evelyn Simpson, and Bessie Simpson. Richard was a member of Beacon Hill Baptist Church, and a past Deacon at High Street Baptist Church, a past Chairman of Somerset Planning / Zoning. He was an Air Force Veteran of World War II. Richard joined the Masonic Lodge Somerset #111 F & AM on September 4, 1953, he was a past master of Somerset Lodge #111 in 1961, Past Master of Burnside Lodge #634 in 2003, District Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of KY in 2004 - 2005, he was also a member of the York Rite Bodies, High Priest of Council in 1962, Commander of the York Rite Bodies in 1967 and a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge # 238. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 30, 2010 at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Dr. John Mark Toby and Rev. Ken Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens. The family of Mr. Richard Simpson will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home after 5:00 p.m. Thursday, April 29, 2010. Pulaski Funeral Home is honored to be in charge of all arrangements for Mr. Richard Simpson.
