Mr. William D. Fortney

Mr. William D. Fortney, born on October 21, 1911 and entered into eternal rest on August 23, 2006 having attained the age of 94 years. Mr. Fortney was originally from Knox County, KY, and was the widower of Flossie Denny Fortney. They were united in marriage on September 16, 1950. He was the son of the late Daniel Boone Fortney and Hulda Francis Rich Fortney. In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Fortney was preceded in death by; three sisters, Mrs. Mae Fortney Hammons, Mrs. Hazel Fortney Davis and Mrs. Onalee Fortney Blevins and two brothers, Mr. Irvin Fortney and Mr. George Fortney. Mr. Fortney is survived by; one sister, Mrs. Carrie Fortney Hubbard of Crittenden, KY and several nephews and nieces which include; Ms. Linda Fortney, Mrs. Joyce Fortney (and Larry) Miller of Artemus, KY, Mrs. Louise Fortney (Gerald) Wilder of Barbourville, KY, Mr. Charles Hammons of Richmond, KY, Mr. Dan R. (and Mary) Fortney, Mrs. Joann Fortney Sowders both of West Carrollton, OH, Mrs. Judy Fortney Howe of Florence, KY, Mrs. Sylvia Fortney (Larry) Hill of Del Ray Beach, FL, Mrs. Sue Francis Hubbard (Ed) Brown of Crittenden, KY, Mr. Paul Davis and Mr. Charles Davis of Barbourville, KY, Mr. John Harvey Davis of Hubert Heights, OH., Mrs. Zelma Davis Vancil of Dayton, OH, and Mrs. Thelma Davis of Myrick, TX. On his wife's side survivors include his sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Lois Denny Cerveny, and nieces and nephews including Mr. Douglas (Donna) Gibson, Mrs. Sue (Jerry) Gibson Ruddy all of Lexington, KY, Mrs. Roseanne (Larry) Cerveny Francis of Sun City Center, FL, Mrs. Noreen (James) Cerveny Bushouse of LaGrange Park, IL, Mrs. Linda (Ron) Cerveny Vaneck of Valencia, CA. Mr. Fortney enlisted and served honorably in the United States Navy for 22 years as a Gunners Mate, stationed on such ships and submarines as the USS Tautag, the USS Tennessee, the USS Beaver, the USS 28, the USS Richmond, and USS Pasadena, before and during World War II. In 1951, he was also called up during the Korean conflict to train Navy seamen at the United States Great Lakes Naval Training Station. When Mr. Fortney left theNavy, he married and farmed in Bronston, KY for many years where he was an active member of the Bronston Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 28, 2006 at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Helton officiating, burial will follow in the Bronston Baptist Church Cemetery. The family of Mr. William Fortney will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. Monday until after services. Pulaski Funeral Home is entrusted with all funeral arrangements.
