Mrs. Ruth E. Garrett Garr, daughter of the late George A. and Amanda Loretta Wheeler Garrett was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky on Wednesday, January 1, 1919 and departed this life on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at the age of 91 years old.
She was united in marriage to Limon Larry Garr who preceded her in death. To this union one son, George Larry Garr, who also preceded her in death, was born. Ruth was educated in the public schools of Pulaski County and was a graduate of Dunbar High School class of 1938.
She was a lifelong member of Mount Olive Baptist Church where she was a dedicated and faithful member lending her God given musical talent of singing and playing the piano to the service of the church until her health failed. She was active in the missionary society in her church as well as on the district and state level. She worked alongside her husband, who was a minister and served as pastor of the Centennial Baptist Church in Harrodsburg, KY and also at Mount Olive Baptist Church.
A homemaker for most of her life she also worked for a short time at Tecumseh Products Somerset Division.
She is survived by a granddaughter, Brittany Garr and a daughter in-law Kimberly Garr of Maryland. She is also survived by one sister, Betty Garrett Cunningham of South Carolina, two brothers Robert(Bob) Garrett, and Gerald Garrett of Somerset, two sisters in law, Maxine Grider Garrett, and Helen Smith Garrett of Somerset, a special niece and care giver Linda Slaughter, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
Funeral services will be held at the Pulaski Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 2010 with the Reverend Siebert Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday preceding the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to The Mount Olive Baptist Church Building Fund.
