Mrs. Gertrude Sears Edison, daughter of the late George R. and Groffie (Robinson) Sears, was born in Somerset, KY on May 13, 1920 and she departed this life in Somerset on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 having attained the age of 89 years.
She was united in marriage to Mr. Charles M. Edison, Sr. , he preceded her in death on November 24, 1997.
Survivors include: two sons, Charles M. (and Bonnie) Edison, Jr. of Paris, KY, Robert Leighton (and Barbara) Edison of North Little Rock, Arkansas; two daughters, Mary Louise (and Jerry) Sears of Lufkin, TX, and Geneva Ann (and Charles Edward) Tucker of Somerset, KY; 8 grandchildren; Jerry L. (and Donna) Sears, Jr. of Lufkin, TX, Mark (and Donna) Sears of Lewisville, TX, Dana Edison of Lexington, KY, Amber Edison of Florida, Robert L. (and Pam) Edison, Jr. of North Little Rock, Arkansas, Melissa (and Corey) Imhoff of North Little Rock, Arkansas, Charles E. Tucker, Jr. of London, KY and Sonya (and James) Salyers of Yosemite, KY; 12 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, two sisters, Katherine Moore of Bellevue, WA and Groffie Brownell of Madison, WI.
Other than her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one brother, George Perkins Sears.
Gertrude was a retired Registered Nurse from the Pulaski County Health Department, she was a Nancy High School Graduate, and she graduated from the University of Kentucky Nursing Program in 1969. She was a member of the Beacon Hill Baptist Church, was an avid reader, and she also enjoyed knitting, she was a kind lady who will be greatly missed by all who knew her and she leaves a host of relatives and friends who mourn her passing.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 15, 2010 at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
The family of Mrs. Gertrude Edison will receive friends at Pulaski Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 14, 2010.
In lieu of flowers the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Hospice of Lake Cumberland or the American Cancer Society.
