Doris Pickering Hill

Mrs. Doris Pickering Hill, born March 5, 1924, died quietly at her home on January 5, 2010. She was the daughter of the late Brigadier General James Arthur and Mrs. Lillian Christie Pickering. She is also preceded in death by her husband the late Dr. John Parker Hill, Jr. She is survived by three children, John P. Hill, III, Bruce Pickering Hill and Kathleen Christie Hill Maddox, three grandchildren, Cristen, David, and Parker. She is also survived by one sister, Sara Ann Martin of Orlando, FL. Dr. & Mrs. Hill were very active in the community, and they helped found the St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church on West Columbia Street in Somerset. A memorial service for close family and friends of Mrs. Hill will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2010 at the St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church with Father Bruce Swinehart officiating. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the American Cancer Society.
