Thelma Wells Speaks Watkins, daughter of the late William Harrison and Ethel Mae Sears Wells, was born in Harlan County, KY on June 27, 1924 and she departed this life on Monday, January 4, 2010 having attained the age of 85 years.
She was first united in marriage to Mr. Rayburn Speaks, he preceded her in death. She later was united in marriage to Rev. Edwin Watkins on November 6, 1993, he survives.
Other survivors include; two daughters, Beulah (and Kenneth) Turner of Somerset, KY and Lorraine (and Gene) Tucker of Bronston, KY; two step-sons; Cleo (and Gloria) Speaks of Somerset, KY and Edwin Watkins, Jr. and his wife Beth of Stearns, KY; three step daughters, Fostine (and Junior) Whitaker, Wanda White, and Oretta (and Steve) Littrell of Somerset, KY, two sister, Bertha Arthur of Somerset, Rebecca Long of Alberqurqie, New Mexico, two special nieces, Carolyn Hyden and Shiela Morgan; 16 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchild.
Other than her parents and first husband, she was also preceded in death by ; one daughter, Ruby Sewell, one step-son, Fayne Speaks; two grand daughters, Wayna Raye Wilson, and Kimberly Whitaker, one great grandson, T.J. Jasper and two brother, George Wells and Ernest Wells.
Mrs. Watkins was a member of the Zion Baptist Church, she was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting, quilting, cooking, gardening, and flowers. Things always flourished when she tended to them.
Thelma was a great mom, and friend to many. She leaves a host of relatives and friends who mourn her passing.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 7, 2010 at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Rev. Ulanda Price and Rev. Claude “Jr.” Meece officiating. Burial will follow in the Barnesburg Cemetery.
The family of Mrs. Thelma Wells Speaks Watkins will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at the Pulaski Funeral Home.
