Mr. Ray Arnold Merritt, son of the late Olvin and Mary Riley Merritt, was born on October 14, 1925 at Poplarville, Kentucky, and he departed this life in the presence of his family in Somerset, Kentucky on Christmas Day, December 25, 2009 having attained the age of 84 years.
He was united in marriage to Vivian B. Woodall on October 4, 1946, she preceded him in death, earlier this year,on November 11, 2009.
Survivors include; two sons, James Ollie (and Beverly) Merritt of Somerset, Kentucky and Larry (and Brenda) Merritt also of Somerset; 2 grandsons, Arnold (and Angie) Merritt of Somerset, Kentucky and Roy (and Christy) Merritt of Indiana; six granddaughters, Sandra (and Larry) Glover, Sabrina (and Johnny) Vaughn, Salina Perkins, Kathy Maxfield, Shauna (and Rick) Poynter, Sara Merritt, fifteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild, one brother, Cicil (and Rubey) Merritt as well as a host of other nephews, nieces, relatives and friends who mourn his passing.
Other than his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by; one son, Arnold Lee Merritt; one daughter-in-law, Lou Ella Merritt; two grandchildren, Sonia Sue Merritt and Jason Merritt; one sister, Fay Thompson; and three brothers, Jorge Allen Merritt, Lee Merritt, and Jessie D. Merritt.
Ray was a World War II Navy Veteran and a member of the Providence Baptist Church, he was a kind person who will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and he leaves a host of relatives and friends who mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Rev. Lowell Gossett and Rev. Marvin Rose officiating, burial will follow in the Merritt Cemetery at Poplarville, KY with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post #38.
The family of Mr. Ray Merritt will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2009.
