Paul J. Meece of Somerset, Kentucky was 76 years old when he went home to be with Jesus on November 29, 2009. Born, June 6, 1933 he was the son of the late Leonard “Cat” Meece and the late Lena Meece Hunt.
Paul was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church where he attended before he became ill many years ago. He always seemed happiest when he was in church. He loved the Lord and even throughout his illness he loved Him so much he was still singing Amazing Grace just a few weeks before he went to meet His Savior. Paul also truly enjoyed singing gospel music, but his passion was playing his guitar.
Paul proudly served his country as a Lance Corporal while in the United States Marine Corp. and he fought in the Korean War from July ‘51 to July ’54. He remained in the Marines as a reserve from July ’54 to July ’59. While serving his country he was awarded several medals and ribbons which include the Occupational Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Paul is survived by his wife of 54 years, Doris Glover Meece, whom he married on December 30, 1954 in Ruth, Kentucky. Throughout his many years of illness Doris stayed by his side to care for him or to make sure that others gave him the best care possible.
Other then his wife Paul is survived by his six children, Dianne (Craig) Jones of Ohio, Tonya Meece, Darrell (Zellean) Meece, Carmen Meece all of Somerset, Paula (Rick) Butte of Science Hill, and Stewart (Edie) Meece of Somerset; 12 grandchildren, Andrea, Makesha, Brad, Jessica, Melia, Tasha, Katharin, Josh, Kendra, Lukas, Kameron and Samantha: 10 great grandchildren, McKenzie, Jasie, Ryder, Kaitlyn, Bellamy, Brady, Haley, Carolina, Morgan, and Micah, 12 step-grandchildren, Harris, Jago, Jordan, Jacob, Mary, Princess, Junior, Robert, Robbie, Leann, and Debbie, 5 step-great grandchildren, Marissa, Courtney, Gabby, Gage, and Izabella.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 grandchildren, Cody and Christopher.
Lance Corporal Paul J. Meece will be laid to rest at Piney Grove Cemetery with military honors which will be conducted by American Legion Post # 38.
Visitation for Paul will be at Pulaski Funeral Home on Tuesday December 1st from 5:00-8:00pm.
Funeral Services will be conducted by Brother Danny Pace and Brother David Bullock at Pulaski Funeral Home, 3:00 pm on Wednesday December 2nd.
